I'm still sorting myself out on the blogosphere, seeing what tools are available to me in terms of editing and linking. I've joined St. Blogs and now I've applied to Blogs Canada. I think Rings and such are always useful tools and that's why I've decided to use them.
The other issue on my mind is asking other bloggers for reciprocating links, which I have not yet done partly because, 1) I'm shy, and 2) I'm not sure that I want a link list ten kilometers long. I see what blogs like mine do as being acting a bit of as a gatekeeper. We pick out items from the web - news, pictures and, yes, other blogs. People visit based on how much they like your choice of stories and your take on said stories. A blog collection is a bit like a custom newspaper that you can read at anytime, because it is always being updated. It never sleeps and it never "goes to press." So I'm leaning towards a trim link list and hoping anyone who asks for a link and is refused will understand. It means less traffic for me too but I think I can live with that.
So with that out of the way, I have, in my recent browsing, come across a few blogs that I do want to add. It took a bit of searching to break into the secret room that Canadian conservative blogs live in. Too many blogs with any mention of Canadian origin read like they aspire to be the Globe and Mail if that paper were assembled by students at Concordia University after a 3 a.m. bender during which the praises of Micheal Moore were sung a little too loudly.
Here's one small step towards turning Canada's Right Wing Conspiracy into something a little more, what's the word I'm looking for....? Oh yes, Vast.
Living in the Unmentionable Times - a very nice site
The Last Amazon - also right on the money
The Canadian Conservative - appears to be the kind of guy I can relate to.
Trudeaupia - also seeking to alter the course of the good ship Canada
Right in Canada - more conservative commentary from north of th 49th
And from the U.S.A.:
American Soldier - do everyone a favour and learn about what's happening on the ground in Iraq from people who are there, and not Micheal Moore, not the the BBC, etc.
Makes room for CanWest to join the majors
Kudos to CanWest for calling a terrorist a terrorist . Many, including The Last Amazon , will be happy to hear it. Reuters is among the worst of the major western news services, where I would also place the BBC and the CBC.
Unsurprisingly, Reuters is not happy about the changes CanWest made to Reuters wire stories:
Our editorial policy is that we don't use emotive words when labeling someone," said David A. Schlesinger, Reuters' global managing editor. "Any paper can change copy and do whatever they want. But if a paper wants to change our copy that way, we would be more comfortable if they remove the byline." Mr. Schlesinger said he was concerned that changes like those made at CanWest could lead to "confusion" about what Reuters is reporting and possibly endanger its reporters in volatile areas or situations. "My goal is to protect
