Hurtin' sounds

I have a 45 minute commute to work each day. That's 45 in and 45 out. I'm saved by the fact that 2/3 of that commute is through rural areas with few cross streets and almost no traffic lights. And country music on the car radio (no Dixie Chicks please!). So I enjoyed MT Owens piece on the genre in NRO today. My latest fave is from Tim McGraw.

I love this: "We got too complicated, It's all way over-rated, I like the old and out-dated, Way of life." I'm not nostalgic for a golden age as much as I am certain that simple is best and simple is seldom as simple as it appears. We are inundated with people who have a vested interest in getting us to try their product, whether that's an i-pod or "social justice." And I find peace in simply doing my best to ignore it all. Y'all get back to me when it actually does something useful. Take your RSS feeds for example. Somebody said they found it useful so I created one for NWW. Now with Firefox I can see what it does. What I fail to see is how it benefits me in any way over my standard browser. Blogrolling tells me who has updates already. To me it looks like an engineering solution in search of a problem.

A very limited form of inquiry

Real Clear Politics is carrying commentary on James Q. Wilson's WSJ article on ID (got that?). Wilson, the respected social scientist, gets it mostly right when he says that ID is not science because it can't be tested: So ID is not science. Does this mean that science, in any way, implies the non-existence of God? No. Does this mean that belief in God is irrational and that we should all be "free thinkers"? No. Does this mean that it is impossible to arbitrate between various theories of the existence/non-existence of God and come to some reasonable conclusions? No. Does this mean that we cannot say that humanity is meant to exist? No. In other words, rationality outside of science is quite possible, and has been around for a long time.
